Our first season in the new Leagues yielded mixed results, some matches we should have won, some we should have lost, lots of new players and a general agreement that the decision to move was the right one. Less driving distances meant more participation, the level of cricket was probably a bit higher than we expected and there were a lot of learning points!
1st XI finished 5th in GCCL Division 6- 44 points away from the team immediately above and over 50 points above the team immediately below, so relatively pleasing. 2nd XI finished 9th in Division 2 East of Cheltenham & Forest of Dean League, great cameraderie within the team but a clear need for some improvement over the winter.
The Club had new windows and doors, fencing and car parking installed during the winter of 2023-24 as par of a Small ECB Grant for which we were incredibly grateful, and the work continues to improve the current facility. A concerted effort by a few players led by Eddie Huggett finally managed to get the new outdoor net finished which will greatly help with practice.
Adult Indoor sessions will be at the Sports Hall in Gretton Road - 6.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m. - Sunday, 16, 23, 30 March and 6 April 2025.
We actively encourage young cricketers into our adult teams - starting in the second team and graduating to the first team. We offer informal 20/20 matches during the season, playing against the hockey club for example, to help young cricketers get used to the adult game.
Winchcombe Cricket Club is a Clubmark Accredited Club - we like to win, but it is not a win at all costs mentality at our Club. We like to play hard and party hard, usually having drinks with the opposition after the game. Our teas are amongst the best around, we have a licensed bar and often have a barbecue or a curry after the game. We play within the Spirit of Cricket and positively encourage respectful behaviour towards the umpire and all players.
